John Onyido is the partner in charge of the Intellectual Property and Technology Department at S.P.A. Ajibade & Co. He oversees Energy, Infrastructure and Natural Resources sector. John Onyido has considerable experience and expertise in the field of Intellectual Property Law both in the general maintenance of various IP rights and related litigation.
He has had cause to represent a number of multinational companies in the protection and enforcement of their IP rights in Nigeria, appearing before superior courts of record in trademark enforcement proceedings. He has obtained Anton Piller Orders and Interlocutory / permanent injunctions against counterfeiters in multi-party class actions.
His expertise extends to various forms of intellectual property licensing, International Trade and Economic law, the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments, Sovereign Debt disputes, International Investment matters and Telecommunications. He has settled appellate briefs before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in collaboration with other attorneys on sensitive and pivotal issues under US Immigration law and practice and acted as lead counsel (admitted pro hac vice) in a landmark administrative appeal over the regulation of professional licenses before the Virginia Circuit Court.
